- Introduction to Japanese Language : A basic introduction to the Japanese language will greatly facilitate communication with your Japanese colleagues. The usefulness of learning even a few greetings cannot be overestimated in terms of how you will be perceived in Japan . Includes the most useful Japanese expressions there are, the most useful chunk of language you can learn, address terms, and other expressions guaranteed to impress.
- Japanese Business Etiquette : Learn how to act in accordance with the requirements of a variety of situations, interpret common cross-cultural situations appropriately, and greatly increase your chances of success in the context of Japan . Introductions and business cards, eating and drinking, gift giving, verbal communication, and the importance of print communication. All the stuff that combines to create a good impression.
- What to Expect in Meetings and Presentations and How to Conduct them Successfully : A look at various cross-cultural diagrams illustrating communication patterns at meetings, listening habits and expectations of the audience, leadership styles which influence negotiations in meetings, and the language of Japanese management. Practical application is in understanding the purpose of meetings and presentations in Japan , knowing what is and isn't important, where and when negotiation takes place, and how deals are ratified etc.
- Working across the Ireland-Japan Divide : This workshop is an introduction to how culture influences communication styles, perceptions, values, attitudes and behaviours, in the context of working across the Japan / Ireland divide. Various potential sources of conflict in work situations are explored. You will find out, for example, what kinds of things irritate Japanese people about Irish colleagues and culture and how can business opportunities for both sides can be protected.
. You will also find out why Japanese people may not like confrontation, why social identity is sometimes more important than individual identity, and why risk taking is often avoided.
