Did you know...
  • that people in Ireland dislike bad words like rain?
  • that they tend to avoid direct confrontation and might say 'Yes' when they mean 'No'?
  • that they might say 'No' when they mean 'Yes' because they don't want to 'put you out'?

We provide training in Business English which enables non-native speakers of English to understand, communicate and participate effectively in an Irish business context. In our training each participant will gain access to language that will enable him/her to, for example:

  • talk about oneself
  • ask for help
  • present a product
  • describe a process
  • arrange a meeting
  • write appropriate e-mails and reports
  • participate fully in meetings

All in a culturally appropriate way. In all our training we emphasise culture, having identified and experienced many areas where cultural differences (which are reflected in language) cause problems in communication between Irish and non-Irish workers. We also encourage on-site training and the use of company materials, as immediate relevance and application are seen as crucial. Whatever your needs, we will customise training to meet them.

English language training is conducted by Karen Ruddock, who has, in addition to her experience training business people in English in cross-cultural contexts, experience in teaching English for International Business and Marketing and English writing at university level. Karen has spent the past five years lecturing in Trinity College Dublin, has specialised in communication across cultures for her Masters degree, and is presently completing her doctorate in the area of teaching language and culture.
